Billy

A home she helped build

She wanted a second child. Her partner made that dependent on securing a family home, so she put in her savings alongside money from his parents. He did not contribute financially, but the property documents were arranged in his name alone.

Afterwards, she was given a handwritten document describing her contribution as a gift. She had not agreed to that arrangement and did not sign it. Having grown up without financial security, she felt that her voice and safety had been taken away.

She stayed and had her second child, while quietly saving towards a way out. Her work was then used against her: she was called a workaholic, told her children would resent her and accused of caring only about money. When he discovered her savings years later, he called her selfish and asked her to leave.

She now has her own home with her children. The security she has built took years of work. Nature, camping, walks, coffee and friends bring pleasure alongside that responsibility. She wants people to understand that working and saving were ways to survive and protect her family, rather than evidence that she did not care about them.
