This privacy policy explains how Stephanie Jade collects, uses and protects personal information submitted through stephaniejadeart.com.
I take your privacy seriously, particularly because some of the stories shared through the Villains project may be personal or sensitive.
Who I am


This website and the Villains project are run by Stephanie Jade, an artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Information I collect
Depending on how you use the website, I may collect:

  • your name or chosen/public name;

  • your email address;

  • social media handles;

  • photographs you choose to provide;

  • information you submit through the Villains participation form;

  • messages you send through email or other contact methods;

  • your communication and publication preferences; and

  • basic technical information collected through the website, such as cookies and website analytics.

You do not need to provide more personal information than is necessary.

 

Villains submissions
If you apply to take part in Villains, you are choosing to share your story with me for consideration as part of an art project.
Stories may contain sensitive information about your experiences or identity. Depending on what you choose to tell me, this may include information concerning health, sexuality, political opinions, ethnicity, religion or other information given additional protection under data protection law.


Please only share information that you are comfortable providing.


I use information submitted through the Villains form to:

  • review and respond to submissions;

  • contact you about possible participation;

  • understand the story you want represented;

  • create the artwork where we agree to proceed; and

  • manage the permissions you give me regarding the artwork and your story.

 

Submitting a story does not automatically give me permission to publish your name, photographs, story or other identifying information.
Any public use of your story or identity as part of Villains will be governed by the permissions and consent choices provided as part of the submission and participation process.


Information about other people
Your story may involve other people.


Please avoid providing unnecessary identifying information about third parties where possible. Where another person needs to be mentioned for your story to make sense, you can describe their role or relationship without giving their full name.
I may edit, anonymise or omit identifying information before publishing material connected with the project.


Why I use your information
I only use personal information where I have a lawful reason to do so.


Depending on the circumstances, this may include your consent, taking steps you have asked me to take in relation to participating in the project, or my legitimate interests in operating my artistic practice and communicating with people who contact me.
Where information submitted to Villains includes special category personal data and I rely on consent to process it, I will rely on your explicit consent.


You can withdraw consent for future processing by contacting me. Withdrawal of consent does not make previous lawful processing unlawful.


Mailing list and marketing
If you choose to join a mailing list or ask to receive updates, I will use your contact information for that purpose only where you have agreed to receive them.


You can unsubscribe at any time.


I will not add you to a marketing mailing list simply because you submitted a Villains story or contacted me about something else.


Sharing your information
I do not sell your personal information.
Information may be processed using service providers necessary to operate this website and communicate with you, including website hosting, form, email and storage providers.


My website is built and hosted using Wix, so information submitted through the website may be processed through Wix's systems.
I may also disclose information where required by law.


How long I keep information
I keep personal information only for as long as I reasonably need it for the purpose for which it was collected.
General enquiries that no longer need to be retained may be deleted periodically.


Villains submissions may need to be retained for longer where a person participates in the project, particularly where I need to maintain a record of the permissions attached to an artwork, publication or exhibition.
Where a submission does not become part of the project, I will periodically review whether there is a reason to continue retaining it.


Keeping your information safe
I take reasonable steps to protect the information entrusted to me and limit access to personal or sensitive submissions.
However, no website, email system or online storage service can guarantee absolute security.
Cookies and analytics
This website may use cookies and similar technologies necessary for the site to function and, where enabled, to understand how visitors use the website.
Where consent is legally required for non-essential cookies, these should only be used after you have made your cookie choices.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings.
Your rights
