The girl who was not believed
As a schoolgirl, she experienced sexual violence from an older classmate. She reported it to the police, and says the boy confessed. At school, however, she was accused of inventing it because she was jealous of his girlfriend.
The bullying continued for years. She became the “girl who cried rape”, a liar and an “attention whore”. Disbelief and public judgement followed an experience that had already hurt her.
She wishes people had responded with kindness, even if they did not know every detail. She also wants room for experiences that do not end in a neat story of becoming stronger. “It's ok that you don't always come out stronger.”
She cares about animals, nature and the wider world. Activism, science, curiosity and learning are important parts of her life. She wants to be seen beyond the story other people attached to her, without having to pretend its effects have disappeared.
